Gigabites Youth Project was set up by a local charity – Churches in Action (Charity No. 1080684), in order to respond to the needs of local young people and to give them a safe place where they could be listened to and respected, and develop a variety of skills. The churches who have supported the project include a wide spectrum, including Anglican, Baptist, Methodist, Roman Catholic, Salvation Army, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, Welsh Independent and a local independent fellowship. Most of the churches that support the project are small in number but we are committed to see the project develop and grow.
Gigabites opened in 2001 and since that time has attracted well over 1000 young people to use its facilities, many of whom have no other real links with Christians or the church. As well as the cafe and IT suite, it provides a variety of workshops covering various arts and crafts, music, photography and other areas. At the moment it is staffed by a team of two full-time and two part-time workers, together with a small but dedicated team of volunteers.
